Surround Sound For Your Home Theater

You can't have a home theater without great sound. Future Home Technologies can help you choose the right home audio equipment and do the wiring so you are "in" the movie.

The first step to having a great home audio system is getting surround sound system in your main TV area. For surround sound you need a minimum of five speakers and a subwoofer, all wired to a surround sound receiver. This is called 5.1 surround sound. If you have room for two more speakers on the sides, the set-up is termed 7.1 surround sound. Speakers in these home sound systems can be regular box or tower speakers, but in-wall or in-ceiling speakers are extremely popular. These speakers are flush in the wall or ceiling and can be painted over so they are unnoticeable.

Home audio speakers vary widely in price. You can spend a couple of hundred dollars for speakers that come as a complete set (home theater in a box) to thousands of dollars for high-end speakers. We advise customers at our New Jersey floor room that there is an entry price point for good speakers. After that, price is based on the subtlety and quality of the sound. It may be the difference between a $60 or $80 bottle of wine. At a certain point, many people are unable to tell the difference in quality.

Home Audio Speakers & Receivers

While having a matched home audio speaker set isn't critical, it is important to get speakers from the same brand. All speaker manufacturers build their speakers to work together.

We primarily use Speakercraft speakers. Speakercraft is the largest and oldest manufacturer of in-wall home sound system speakers. They are also the largest dealer among custom home audio installers. They do a great job and really support their products. We can get almost any speaker for your home theater needs, but Speakercraft is a great starting point.

For receivers, Denon and Yamaha are great. Again, we support most brands and we get you the best in class and highest rated equipment.

Whole-House Audio Solutions

Using an A/V receiver or dedicated stereo receiver, we can wire for speakers throughout your home so you have music wherever you go.

Music can come from an iPod plugged into your receiver with a dock, a Sirius satellite radio receiver, a dedicated music server or even a CD player. We can even connect your computer directly to your receiver so you can access all the music on your PC or internet music sources such as Rhapsody. Sonos is one tool that allows us to do this. To access music in each room, we can do anything from simple volume controls to a wired or wireless multi-zone controller that allows different music to be played in each room simultaneously. Each room can also have a keypad that shows you all your music on one easy-to-use screen.
